When Melissa got in touch back in 2017, we were bowled over by her work ethic, and the sheer amount of time she spends in the saddle was super impressive. On top of that, she's got bundles of style and a gorgeous smile, so we knew instantly that she'd be a fantastic fit for the team. Living at Fairoak Grange means she spends more time in a pair of breeches than most, so we look forward to kitting out this dressage starlet for the coming seasons.
In her own words...
Hi, i’m Melissa, a 19 year old dressage rider from Hampshire. I am currently on a ‘dressage journey’ with my horse Keystone Royal Chrystal, who has been with me since she was 6-month-old. We are currently competing at Advanced Medium level with hope of being PSG by the end of the summer. I’ve always been ambitious, and my goal is to be on a young rider team to represent GB one day. I’m so excited that TrendyEquine has offered to support me on this journey.
I currently train with Lindsey Dawes and Spencer Wilton, who have been the most supportive and knowledgeable trainers that a girl could ask for! I also work and ride for Fairoak Grange Equestrian in Hampshire, which my family has run for the past 15 years. To have these facilities on my doorstep (literally) is fantastic, and allows me to spend a lot of time riding and training on world-class surfaces.
The 2017/2018 season was a successful one for Chrystal and me. I was very fortunate to be awarded an Elite Sport Scholarship at my university, Royal Holloway, due to my riding which has been such amazing and supportive system. I was also re-selected for the national high-performance training camps sponsored by the UK sport lottery fund where I had a great time at all three camps and learnt a lot. I placed second at the area festival semi-finals and had qualified for the PetPlan nationals in April, where I went on to come 3rd.
Back in the summer I competed at the Sheepgate under 25 National championship as both a team member and individual, coming 3rd individually and 2nd as a team. I also had my high profile debut this year, coming 2nd and 3rd in two very hard and competitive classes which I was over the moon at. I’m feeling so pumped for the next 12 months.
I’ve always been obsessed with equestrian fashion; I love being able to wear the same outfits that my favourite riders wear on TV and at shows, and it gives me a huge sense of confidence when riding. I’ve always opted for a more classic look, but I do enjoying adding a splash of colour to my outfits every now and then. My favourite brand is Cavallo, and I just love the quality and fit of all their products. And as for Chrystal.. she loves a bit of sparkle and bling, and let’s be honest, she pulls it off perfectly!
